Publisher, Rowman & Littlefield, has signed Michael Fenster, MD, F.A.C.C., FSCA&I, PEMBA, to a publishing deal for a new book described as a culinary survival guide.

BECOME A GRASSROOTS GOURMET: A PRESCRIPTION FOR GOOD FOOD, HEALTHY LIVING, AND EPICUREAN ENLIGHTENMENT is being written by Fenster, a Board Certified Interventional Cardiologist and professional chef. Rowman & Littlefield plans to release the book in winter 2012.

“ I developed the Grassroots Gourmet concept after years of working with patients who medically need to change their eating habits but who also see food as a source of fun, family togetherness, and comfort, Fenster explains. “As a physician, I believe in the centuries old wisdom of Hippocrates: ‘Let thy medicine be thy food, and thy food be thy medicine.’ However, as a chef I know that if food does not taste good then it is only medicine. Eating healthy does not have to mean boring. This book allows me to share my medical knowledge, as well as my culinary skills, with everyone who seeks to live a robust, healthy life.”

Fenster’s book also reflects his practice and beliefs of Eastern philosophies and his personal eating prescription to enjoy fresh ingredients, watch proportions, and avoid junk food. Pitched as Tony Bourdain meets Gregory House, MD, with a dash of Lao Tzu, BECOME A GRASSROOTS GOURMET is a culinary survival guide with a dose of solid medical information and advice. Fenster views it as having your own physician on 24-hour call.
