As an example, the label below from a very popular brand demonstrates that the majority ingredient in making this version is sugar. That’s followed by a laundry list that contains unwanted coloring agents and additives.

This homemade version with less than 10 ingredients takes less than 10 minutes to whip up in a food processor. Plus, you can add more or less certain flavors to craft it exactly to your taste. Using wholesome and authentic foods like this hoisin sauce transforms epic fail into epic meal.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Chinese five spice

Directions:
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth.
